Checks and Balances
HELLO, it’s me. I have to admit I’m proud of myself for not skipping a whole other week to post on here. I’m now aiming to publish once a week as opposed to twice– I figured I prefer to do what I can rather than to post mediocre content.
I wanted to share with you this checked dress I bought on a whim on MANGO.com, which I funnily ended up styling like the model on the website (I swear it wasn’t styled that way when I bought it!). Now that it’s permanently cold in New York until further notice, I need the extra layers to keep me warm.
Buying vintage/thrift continues to be my number one for acquiring “new” clothes, but that doesn’t mean I’ve entirely cut out mainstream brands from my life. Yes, I haven’t stepped into a Zara in months, and it’s usually only out of an impulse that I purchase something online, but from time to time I get in on that one piece I know I’ll wear more than once – almost like a basic. And that’s just what I liked about this dress. I love the neutral shade, which if you look super closely, you’ll notice is made up of black, brown, navy, and cream-colored checks. Together they create this flattering number, which easily translates from one season to the next. I also really liked the oversized buttons detail, which adds that of-the-moment look.
As for the boots, how cool are they!? I thought the buckle might be a little too much, but it’s really not. When it comes to statement pieces sometimes more is just more. And that’s ok.
