Taking A Shopping Break & Falling Back on Basics
For the past two months I’ve been abstinent of shopping for clothing (for the most part), which means I’ve been wearing on repeat many of the pieces I already own.
With so many cool brands launching and trends coming up left and right, for a fashion aficionado like myself, it becomes more and more difficult not to go into a shopping whirlwind. And that’s why I had to sit down and tell myself I need to start getting creative with what I already own.
Yes, this can get pretty challenging as it gives (more) way for the “I have nothing to wear” dilemma. But it also helps me remember why I love fashion in the first place. For me, it’s not just about wearing things once and moving on to the next trend–at least not anymore. I now like to shop for pieces if I know I’ll be wearing them at least a few times and hopefully for years to come. But then, of course, there are the occasional one-time wonders–mostly purchased out of pure impulse. And that’s ok too as long as I’m conscious not to make it a habit.
It doesn’t get more basic than a good ol’ white t-shirt or black trousers, but that’s the beauty of classics. They never get old! Paired together or worn separately, they work every single time and funnily enough I haven’t gotten bored (yet). I know this break is about to end soon though (like, tomorrow!) now that fall is here and I get extra excited for fresh fall picks. Regardless I know I can always count on my trusty basics.
