Back in December, JL and I were lucky to go home to El Paso for a couple of weeks. The weather was sunny and AH-MAZING (I'm talking high 60s, low 70s) most of the trip–basically all I could've asked for coming from freezing New York.
But the weather's not the only thing that attracts me to El Paso. Obviously, I love seeing my family and catching up with friends–especially when I reunite with friends I hadn't seen in years, which is just what happened with Ana Luisa, who shot these beautiful photos at my former university, UTEP (University of Texas at El Paso). It kind of took me back to my college days–days in which I had big dreams of moving to New York and work in fashion.
We hadn't been to El Paso since our wedding back in October 2016. It's been the longest I've ever gone without seeing most of my family. I was lucky to have spent a few final moments with my paternal grandfather, who passed away exactly a month after Christmas Day. I think back and am so grateful I grew up with love from all of my grandparents–I had all four of them up until a few months ago.
Whenever I go visit it's funny how it feels like nothing has changed, but at the same time EVERYTHING feels different, and I'm slowly learning to accept it. However, it's nice to be able to go home away from home and sometimes even feel like a tourist in my own city.
